"Women are a powerful force as consumers, and industry knows that. And we should not be letting other people make those decisions for us. So, if you have an idea and you are a woman and you are a mom, those should be the people that are leading the industry, because we're the people that it's for."

3 Things I Learned From Dr. Elizabeth Adams

  1. Don’t be afraid to take the first step toward building something great.

If you are passionate about an idea, if you want to go build something that you love - go do it. Don’t be scared. You don’t have to know everything and you can learn as you grow. Believe in yourself and your product or your service. Your idea could revolutionize an industry. Your service could dramatically improve millions of lives in the most meaningful way. Take the first step toward building something great. And build it with people who believe in you and who are just as or even more passionate about the idea.

  2. Everyone has their bad days . . . and that’s absolutely ok. Keep going, keep growing.

Building something of your own and working hard is not an easy feat. There will be days where you doubt yourself, “I can’t do this”, “I’m not smart enough”, “I don’t belong here”. There will be days where you are so tired from being up all night with your sick kid(s). There will be days where you burst into tears while reaching for the shampoo. And that’s 100% ok. You are not alone we all go through these trying days; it’s part of the journey. Adapt, learn, and continue to grow. You can do it.

  3. Parents can get more support for the everyday challenges of raising children.

Raising children is simultaneously the most rewarding and challenging experience. When you’re in the thick of things like sleep training, searching for the right preschool, or trying to manage big feelings between siblings, those everyday challenges can feel overwhelming. So, we turn to our family and friends for advice, we Google things, we think about which of the five books we have time to read on sleep training. And we feel overwhelmed again, because there is so much content out there. What works? What doesn’t? Is this evidence based?

And here’s the thing, every family has their own values, there are many different ways to parent, and every child is unique. Just as we would take our child to a behavioral or speech therapist, if needed, parents should be able to get easier access to specialists or experts that can help with the everyday challenges of parenthood as well.

Dr. Elizabeth Adams, who is a parent and a clinical child psychologist, identified this gap in support for parents during early childhood development. This led Elizabeth to co-found Trustle: a service that provides parents with on-demand coaching and ongoing access to experts in early childhood development. Elizabeth and I talk all about parent coaches and Trustle in MWB Episode 005. Enjoy!
